Defending against attacks while on the ground

Learning how to fall when being attacked is one of the most important skills you can learn in self defence. It is a fact that over 90% of serious head injuries in street confrontations are the direct result of someone having been wither thrown or struck to the ground causing serious head injury, often resulting in coma or death.

If you have been knocked unconscious whilst on your feet there is not much you can do about how you fall. However, if you have been trained in breaking a fall to the ground and are half conscious, it may mean the difference between life and death.

In self defence situation when someone has hold of you, the result is often that both you and your attacker end up grappling on the ground. If an attacker punches or kicks once or several times without a response, then that is considered an assault.

The situation does not become a full on confrontation until both parties are exchanging blows for more than a few seconds, and this often results in a standing grapple, which then ultimately results in a grapple on the ground. It is absolutely vital to learn how to defend yourself whilst on the ground in a full on self defence situation.
